Though the country is located in Asia the Filipino culture has been greatly influenced by it s contact with Spain and the United States. After years of Spanish and American interference the country became more politically united, with a central democratic government. The country has had a turbulent experience while trying to create a stable government. Human trafficking has been a significant problem in the country, which the government has tried to address by expanding educational programs, offering support to victims, and prosecuting perpetrators.
